These 6-month, full-time programs offer concentrated explorations into the processes of filmmaking as students learn to write, direct, produce, shoot and edit an MOS film, a Sync-Dialogue film and a music video.
Each project involves the technical, creative and business elements of production. Students develop stories from concept to finished films and refine their skills as visual storytellers. They collaborate with their peers on all projects, participating in multiple technical disciplines to gain both understanding and respect for their value in the creative process. The programs emphasize professional etiquette to facilitate successful and effective overall crew performance.
At levels of learning equivalent to Year 1 of three-year UK undergraduate (bachelor) degree courses, the programs are excellent gap-year options for college-bound and college students, and also ideally suited for those seeking comprehensive introductions to filmmaking for application in other careers or as a semi-professional or leisure pursuit. In addition to the specific skills involved in the field, students gain an impressive array of transferable skills while developing a creative idea and seeing it through to completion, including research and project management skills, experience with current technology and the ability to reflect upon and critically analyse one’s own work – skills highly desirable in any sector.
